Das glühendheiße Manaus im Amazonasgebiet ist eine Stadt der Gegensätze und ein typisches Beispiel für ganz Brasilien.
Auf der einen Seite steht das weltbekannte Opernhaus, das während des Kautschuk-Booms Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts gebaut wurde.

The extremely hot Manaus in the Amazonas region is a city of contrasts and a typical example for the whole Brazil.
On one side there is the world famous opera house which was erected during the rubber boom at the end of the 19th century.

Auf der anderen Seite wird hier auch die unbeschreibliche Armut des Landes deutlich. Diese Armut zu überwinden ist eine der ganz großen Herausforderungen.

On the other side the exceptionel poverty of this country becomes visible. It is one of the big challenges to reduce this poverty.

Ein interessantes Ziel ist der Zusammenfluß der Flüsse Rio Negro und Rio Solimoes, die dann zusammen den Amazonas bilden. Unterschiedliche Wassertemperaturen verhindern, daß sich das fast schwarze Wasser des Rio Negro und das vom mitgeführten Schlamm braune Wasser des Rio Solimoes sofort vermischen. Deshalb fließen die beiden Teilflüsse des Amazonas zunächst deutlich sichtbar über mehrere Kilometer nebeneinander her.

An interesting destination is the junction of the two rivers Rio Negro and Rio Solimoes, which form the Amazonas river. Different water temperatures delay the mixture of the nearly black water of the Rio Negro and the muddy Rio Solimoes. Therefore these waters flow side by side in the same river bed for a number of kilometres before they join together.
